March 12 Back to graphic artsIts been a while since I have done some art, and the truth is I feel it is something I have to go back to. I got some gear (Pentium D @ 3GHz, 64 bit, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7800GT) and started creating some test digital paintings. The drawings below are the first I have done in quite a while, they did not take more than 10 mins to complete and were done mostly to practice with the Graphire WACOM Tablet and some of the brushes. I still not have set up the computers and how I will organize them; It is kind of hard to do when you are renting, and you do not know how much time you will be in that place.
The 24" monitor you see is a Dell 2405. This monitor is a total beauty and well worth its bang for the buck.
November 30 Trip to EnsenadaI haven’t published anything for a while mostly because I don’t have the time, so I have decided to put a generic entry about a recent trip. On the Thanksgiving weekend 2005 I traveled to San Diego, CA to then be picked up by my childhood friend (Guille) to drive across the Mexican border to Ensenada which is about 1 hour south of Tijuana along the Baja California peninsula. So if you don’t know, Guille and his family have been like kin to me for more than 10 years now, not to mention they have taken good care of my diet needs, something they are famously notorious for. A lot of Puertoricans study medicine at the Xochicalco University (http://www.xochicalco.edu.mx) where I happened to find other friends I know (It’s a small world after all). I would recommend Ensenada as a place to visit alomg with Tijuana and the rest of the peninsula. I had a great time over there and I’m looking forward to check it out anytime in the future soon. June 05 Kata GurumaKata Guruma or more commonly known as fireman's carry is another of my favorite techniques, it literally means shoulder wheel throw. This throw has become very popular by european and latin american Judo players which have created many variations to this throw. The original Kata Guruma as done in the Nage No Kata is done standing up, now a lot of players do it from the ground. Here is an example of the technique http://judoinfo.com/images/animations/blue/kataguruma.htm. Here I have two pictures, one executing the technique at the Bellevue Judo Tournament in Washington and the other at the Panamerican Circuit Puerto Rico Open Judo Tournament. Please bear with my face. May 15 American? Who is? What is?It is said that many years ago most dry land in our blue planet was all amassed into a region which scientists have named as Pangaea. These lands were later separated because of different global level phenomena such as continent sliding and tectonic plate movement, and later became populated with humanoid life forms. The dry land regions are grouped into big regions called the Old World and the New World which happen to be situated in what we call the Western Hemisphere and Eastern Hemisphere. In the late 1400’s Christopher Columbus a Geneva native (or so it is believed) decided to set sail under the Spanish flag financed by Fernando and Isabel, rulers of the kingdom that united Castilla and Aragon, or what came to be modern Spain. Curiously the reasons for this voyage are very different from what is traditionally taught at our schools, these are: 1. 1. Columbus discovered the world was round as he saw the boats leave the shore! Of course not, way back in the day different experiments had proved “world roundness”, only religious fanatics supported the idea of a flat world with monsters at the end!! 2. 2. The kings of Spain wanted to support these new ideas as a contribution! No!! Not at all!! Knowing the world was round they could travel to the Indies without being hijacked by desert pirates. Anyways, years after Columbus re-discovered what he thought was the Indies and called these less technologically advanced people “Indians”, raped the women, brought sickness and disease and tricked them into trading cheap pieces of colored glass for gold, somebody got smart; Americo Vespuccio. Vespuccio found out that the reason this new land was so different from the land of the people they used to trade was in fact because it is a totally different continent, because of this dicovery it was named "America" after Vespuccio. Now that you have a background on what America means you will see it is a much misused term. Anybody born in the content of America is an American, all the way from the Bering Straight in Alaska to Tierra del Fuego in Argentina is as a matter of fact an American. The only problem now is that we must find a new name for people exclusively born in the United States, as they also are Americans. I have proposed a few names you are also welcome to propose a few. 1. Unitedstatetitians 2. Yankees 3. Gringos 4. USayers 4. After this I would guess you have a totally new meaning for “America for the Americans”!!
January 09 Ippon Seio NageIppon Seio Nage means one arm shoulder throw, as a judoka it is one of my favorite throws and also one of the ones I have tried to perfect the most (relative to my other throws that is). Judo is one of the toughest Olympic sports next to wrestling and boxing, in which one opponent has to fight the other to win by either submission, decision or a full throw. Judo was derived from its older predecessor Jiu Jitsu back in the late 1800’s in Japan where Master Jigoro Kano tried to unify the dispersed martial arts under one school today called the Kodokan. I have attached a picture of me executing the Ippon Seio Nage throw, actually a variation commonly called as “drop seio nage”, this technique accounts for 60 – 70 % of my victories most of these times scoring ippon or full point. I was previously ranked in Puerto Rico and managed to win the collegiate national championships in 73 Kg/161 lbs (uff!) I am currently in the pursuit of continuing my training and compete in the next US Open Judo tournament, the hardest thing to do is to feed all priorities at the same time without running thin.
January 01 My First BlogFinally!! This is the first blog I've written, after some peer pressure and the actual interest of laying my ideas and personal reflections in black and white I’ve decided to engage in the blog writing activity. I hope to come up with interesting articles on my behalf in the future, so let’s see.
